Jimmy Garoppolo 2018 Outlook: The Next Brady? Not Just Yet
6 years agoSan Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo would seem to have everything an NFL quarterback needs to be exceptional: accuracy, knowledge of the game, an offensive-minded head coach, and exceedingly good looks. It doesn't hurt that he spent three years learning behind the GOAT, Tom Brady, either. With half a season under Kyle Shanahan's system last season, Garoppolo is expected to have full command of the offense and jump into QB1 status for fantasy teams.
While it's hard to extrapolate too much from last year's six-game sample, it should be noted that he only tossed six TD compared to five INT in his five starts. That said, he was without top receiver Pierre Garcon and he also welcomes pass-catching back Jerick McKinnon to alleviate some pressure. Some may contend that Garoppolo is being overdrafted based on overly optimistic projections, all the pieces are in place for him to succeed. He may be the next Tom Brady one day, but don't assume it will happen right away. Target him as a value play at QB10 if you choose to wait on the position.
