Patrick Maroon Joins the Blues on a One-Year Deal
6 years agoThe St. Louis Blues have signed unrestricted free-agent Patrick Maroon to a one-year contract worth $1.75 million. Maroon, a St. Louis native, will be playing for his third team in two years after reportedly turning down more money to re-sign with the New Jersey Devils. The 30-year-old left wing scored 43 points in 73 games last year, which marked the second straight season in which he scored more than 40 points. Those two seasons have been the most productive of Maroon's career, and when looked at along with a shooting percentage over that time (13.8 percent) which is slightly above his career average, it is fair to assume Maroon has reached the peak of his on-ice production. Maroon likely continues to play in a middle-six role, with little opportunity for power-play time, further limiting his upside in fantasy. Although he does offer additional value in terms of penalty minutes and hits, Maroon remains a fringe fantasy roster player.
