6 years agoAs rumors of a possible acquisition of Manny Machado heat up in Philadelphia, the current third baseman of the Phillies had a big hit Friday night. Maikel Franco drilled a solo home run in the ninth inning of the club’s game against the Miami Marlins, doubling the lead in what would ultimately be a 2-0 victory. Entering Friday, Franco was already off to a stellar July, hitting .371 for the month. If the Phillies do end up acquiring Machado, one of his options would be third base, alongside shortstop. This wouldn't be the first time the club seemed down on Franco, as talk emerged earlier this season of a possible trade for Adrian Beltre.--RDelgado
