Vince Velasquez Goes Six Scoreless Innings In Return
6 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies activated starting pitcher Vince Velasquez prior to Wednesday's game against the New York Mets, sending him to the Citi Field mound. The 26-year-old, who was struck by a line drive in his last start back in June, was away for exactly 10 days. On Wednesday, he was strong against the Mets, firing six shutout innings, but not relying on many strikeouts like he usually does. Velasquez allowed only two hits and a walk in his return, his first scoreless outing since the middle of May. Knowing how inconsistent he’s been throughout his career, we’d be careless to jump on this start and convince ourselves he’s turned a corner. This is certainly a positive step, however, as he should be monitored moving forward.
