Satoshi Kodaira missed the cut at the U.S. Open after shooting rounds of 81 and 77. Kodaira, who was making his second career U.S. Open appearance, was not able to build off of last year's T46 at Erin Hills. Kodaira opened Thursday with a triple-bogey on his first hole and was never able to get himself back on track. The 28-year-old Japanese golfer struggled mightily with his short game, losing 2.083 strokes around the green and 5.414 strokes putting. The U.S. Open marks the ninth consecutive tournament that Kodaira has lost strokes around the green to the field. The 35th-ranked golfer in the world now runs the risk of seeing his ranking enter free-fall mode. Points earned towards the Official World Golf Ranking's remain on a player's tally for two years, but they're reduced on a sliding scale after 13 weeks. Kodaira's win at the RBC Heritage is about to lose some luster here shortly.
