Jose Berrios Strikes Out Seven But Bullpen Fails Him Late In Loss
Jose Berrios made his fantasy owners happy on Thursday against the Detroit Tigers, but ended up with another loss in the process. The right-hander threw six innings of one-run ball, striking out seven and allowing one walk. He managed to get out of a couple of jams, too, including a dire one in the bottom of the sixth inning. With runners on second and third and no outs, Berrios pitched his way out to conserve a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately, the Tigers took advantage of his exit — and Addison Reed — which ultimately led to a 5-2 loss for the Twins. Nonetheless, the 24-year-old Berrios is now coming off two consecutive quality starts, including an absolute gem against the White Sox on June 7. Sticking with Berrios after some early-season frustrations has definitely paid off for fantasy owners. With that said, the right-hander has a tough task ahead of him against the Red Sox next Tuesday.
