Rosell Herrera Claimed By Royals
7 years agoThe Kansas City Royals have claimed outfielder Rosell Herrera from the Cincinnati Reds after he was waived. Herrera was placed on the 40-man roster and assigned to Triple-A. To make room for the pickup, pitcher Nate Karns was moved to the 60-day disabled list. Herrera was a top Rockies prospect in 2014 when he was expected to be a shortstop or third baseman, initially slotted above current Rockies prospects and players like Ryan McMahon, Tom Murphy, Raimel Tapia, Trevor Story, and Chad Bettis. He’s hit for a pinch of power with a bit of speed (57 SBs from 2015 through 2017) across multiple levels, but none of his numbers have been outstanding enough to really excite fantasy crowds outside of a 36-steal season at Double-A in 2016. At just 25 years of age, he could still grow into solid slap hitter at the major league level.
