Vince Velasquez Lacks Length In Defeat
7 years agoIn what is becoming a problem this season and has been a problem for much of his career, Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Vince Velasquez couldn’t stretch out his start against the Atlanta Braves. Seeking to pitch his team into first place, the 25-year-old went just 4 1/3 innings, surrendering just one run on six hits and three walks. Despite his nine strikeouts, he consistently fell behind batters, causing his struggles with the pitch count. In nine starts this season, Velasquez has failed to make it through five innings three times. While the final score was another low-scoring tight affair at 3-1 to the Braves, Velasquez’s lack of innings pitched stands out.
