Kyle Shanahan Gushes Over Jerick McKinnon

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said he got "lost" watching running back Jerick McKinnon's game film before they signed him for four years and $30 million. "There's so many things I liked about him, just visualizing how I would use him and the stuff that we would do," Shanahan said Thursday. "Even though there wasn't a ton of it, you've still got to see him do some stuff that we do a lot. And whenever he did, he excelled a ton and looked very good at it." McKinnon's receiving skills will be especially useful in San Fran's outside zone-running system, where he'll be asked to operate in space. He had 142 catches in four seasons in Minnesota, and Shanahan said there will be times where the running back will be lined up as a wide receiver. McKinnon's arrow is pointing way up, especially in fantasy, although Matt Breida will likely mix in. Shanahan should get creative in getting the ball to McKinnon, and he certainly has RB1 upside in PPR leagues.
