Cameron Rupp Not Expected To Be Major Player in 2018
7 years agoFor the third straight season, Cameron Rupp played over 80 games for the Philadelphia Phillies last year, assuming a bigger role behind the plate as starting catcher. Unfortunately for the 29-year-old, he put up painfully poor numbers, probably ensuring that he won’t start this season. Rupp hit just .217 in 88 games, putting up 14 home runs and 34 RBI. Additionally, while his BB% went down, his K% went way up, finishing among the 10 worst in the league with at least 300 plate appearances. Heading into Spring Training this year, Rupp is in a position battle, but it will be against Andrew Knapp for the backup catcher role. Rupp shouldn’t be considered in any drafts, as he’s very likely to see minimal action.
