Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving has had an interesting year adapting to his new team and learning to be the No. 1 option on a very young team. Coming into the season, it was clear that the message for the team was defense first. Irving bought in and it led to an extraordinary first month where he was averaging nearly two steals per game. It didn’t come without a price, though, as he was only scoring 21 points per game and his three-point shooting suffered slightly. Since then, Irving has gone back to his scoring-first mentality, and the Celtics have lost their identity and have suffered from inconsistency. As they now look up to the Toronto Raptors and with the new-look Cavaliers closing in, head coach Brad Stevens will look to capture some of the beginning-of-the-season magic and try to refocus the team to a defensive/team-centric approach that may go against Irving’s natural instinct.--Jared Hong
