Eric Thames With Only Power And OBP
7 years agoEric Thames’ return to the major leagues started off with a tremendously impressive first month. He had 11 home runs in April with a .345 average. It was the best start anyone could hope for after playing in the Korean baseball league for three years. Unfortunately, he had a lackluster rest of the season. The biggest concern for Thames was his inability to hit left-handed pitchers, with .182 average and .664 on-base plus slugging against them. Against right-handed pitchers, he hit for a .265 average and a .933 OPS. Thames’ production against right-handers is the ultimate reason his stats at the end of the season (31 HR and 83 runs) looked serviceable. He also had a 13.6% base on balls. Thames is not a hitter that you can leave in your lineup on a daily basis; if you are capable of making daily moves in your league, he might be an option. While his stats might make it appear as though he would be a great option in OBP and OPS leagues, he should only be started against right-handed pitchers. You will be able to draft Thames, who has first base and outfield eligibility, in round 16.
