German Marquez Has Potential
7 years agoGerman Marquez looked pretty amazing for a 22-year-old rookie who had to pitch in Coors for half of his games. That doesn’t mean his overall numbers are very good, but that’s quite a rough hand to be dealt at the ripe old age of 22. Marquez finished with a 4.39 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and strikeout rate of 8.17. For real life and in Colorado, those are fine numbers that will guarantee him a spot in the rotation moving forward. For fantasy, those aren’t really the numbers of a pitcher that should be owned in most leagues. Even his splits only led to a 4.19 ERA on the road. 2018 looks to likely be more of the same from Marquez, but he’s worth keeping an eye on due to his age. He’s easily a candidate for a breakout because he’s so young and has potential, but none of the underlying numbers support that it’s the likely path he’ll follow.
