Jose Peraza Looking To Lock Down Starting SS Role
7 years agoCincinnati Reds infielder Jose Peraza was a disappointment in 2017. He opened the season as the team's starting second baseman but lost that role to Scooter Gennett as the season went on. Peraza still wound up playing in 143 games, finishing with a .259/.297/.324 slash line, five homers, 50 runs, 37 RBI, and 23 stolen bases. Peraza doesn't have much power, but he has the ability to hit for a high average and he has plenty of speed. Peraza has never been a very patient hitter, with just a 3.6% career walk rate. That being said, he did improve that mark by 1.2% from his 2016 campaign. Peraza should come cheap in drafts this spring and, if nothing else, would be a decent source for steals. If he winds up hitting towards the top of the Cincinnati lineup, he could also be an asset in the runs scored category. He's worth a look as a reserve infielder this season.
