A.J. Pollock Still A Top-50 Talent
7 years agoA.J. Pollock’s career has been riddled with injuries thus far and 2017 was no different. Prior to the groin strain, Pollock was productive, totalling 26 runs, two home runs, and 11 stolen bases in 37 games. He also had a .299 average. Pollock’s statistical second half of the season was not as promising; he hit 11 home runs, stole seven bases, and had a .251 average. However, the underlying skills continue to represent a quality fantasy player. After the All-Star break, Pollock decreased his ground ball percentage and increased his line drive percentage, albeit with more soft contact. He also maintained his superior strikeout rate and improved his walk rate. There is no doubt that Pollock has the skills to be a five-category contributor, the question continues to be his health and home park. Even if he maintains his health, the humidor at Chase Park will curb his power. Understanding the risks, Pollock can be drafted in the third or fourth round, with potential for a 20 home run/20 stolen base player at his best, a 15/20 is more likely. In dynasty leagues, you would be selling low if you trade him now. If you intend upon shopping Pollock, wait for him to demonstrate increased production first.
