Jeimer Candelario Not A Player To Target For 2018
7 years agoWhen the Detroit Tigers sent Alex Avila and Justin Wilson the Cubs in a deadline deal last season, they received a highly-touted, defense-first prospect named Jeimer Candelario. Candelario came up in Chicago's system and had very little big-league experience, but given the Tigers' desire to move Nicholas Castellanos to the outfield, the move made sense. Candelario came in hot and played to the tune of a .326 average with a pair of homers over the last month of the season, but there's not a lot of reason to think he'll be able to sustain that output for the duration of a full schedule. Candelario struck out 21% of the time last year, and somehow managed a .351 BABIP despite making hard contact just 28.9% of the time and notching a 45.4% groundball rate. He's a bottom-tier third baseman until he proves otherwise.
