Jacob deGrom Set For Another Great Year
7 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom has pretty much been a rock during his four years in the big leagues, and all indications are things will stay the same during year five. 2017 was a bit of a weird season for deGrom, who essentially went all in on strikeouts at the expense of ERA. deGrom’s ERA was still very good, 3.53 (compared to 2.54 and 3.04 in 2015 and 2016, respectively), but struck out 10.68 batters per nine innings, a career-best. His 13.2% swinging strike rate was also a career-high. Ideally, fantasy owners would like to see a compromise in the middle on his ERA’s and K’s, much like in 2014 with the aforementioned 2.54 ERA and 9.66 K/9 - instead of one number being at the expense of the other. Of course, if the 2017 deGrom is what we get, nobody is complaining about that either. He’ll once again finish as a top 10 SP, and a legitimate SP1 for your fantasy rotation.
