Christopher Bell Could Win His Second Consecutive Race At Homestead
4 weeks agoJoe Gibbs Racing's Christopher Bell qualified third for Sunday's Straight Talk Wireless 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, marking the third time in his Cup career that he will start a race at the site from the top 3. In four previous starts at Homestead, Bell has won once and scored two top-10 finishes while also leading multiple laps in the last two Cup events at the site. After 33 races so far this season, Bell has three wins, 21 top-10 finishes (most of all drivers), and 999 laps led (second-most of all drivers). At 1.5-mile Intermediate tracks this year, Bell has four top-10 finishes, including a win at Charlotte, and led 90 laps or more in each of the last three races at the track type. In practice, Bell ranked 27th in 10 consecutive lap averages and 10th in overall lap averages. Despite the underwhelming practice speeds, Bell has been strong on Intermediate ovals all season, and with favorable track history at Homestead as the defending winner, he is one of the top favorites to compete for the win this week.
