Tatsuro Taira suffered a split decision loss to Brandon Royval in the main event of UFC Vegas 98 on Saturday. Taira was outstruck in the first round, but in the second round, he was able to get his grappling going as he took Royval down and had over 4 minutes of control. Yet, Taira couldn't get the takedowns in the third round, but he did so in the fourth as he controlled Royval for over 4 minutes again. In the fifth round, in what likely was going to be the deciding round, Taira was outstruck 57-to-15. When the final bell rang, it was Royval who scored a split-decision win. With the loss, Taira fell to 16-1 as a pro and 6-1 in the UFC. Taira should still get a top-10 opponent next.
