Chase Elliott Has An Underwhelming Day At Watkins Glen
2 months agoFor Sunday's Go Bowling at the Glen at Watkins Glen International, Chase Elliott placed 19th. Starting from the 14th position, Elliott quickly made up ground during the first stage, especially as others went to pit road at the end of the first stage. Elliott finished sixth at the end of the first stage and gained stage points. Between the first and second stages, Elliott had a long 20-second pit stop, costing him plenty of track position. Despite his efforts to try moving back to the front, Elliott and his team decided to hit pit road before the end of the second stage to gather more track position when others pitted during the stage two break. The No. 9 Chevrolet driver failed to collect stage points in the second stage and placed 25th. In the final stage, Elliott struggled to make it back to the top 10, so during a pit stop under caution on lap 81 for debris, he went to pit road and ended back in the middle of the pack with fresh tires. Unfortunately, Elliott suffered damage during a lap 88 incident with Todd Gilliland, Kyle Larson, and Josh Berry, which hampered his car's performance. Elliott ended the race with his second consecutive finish outside the Top 10 at the Glen. Despite his underwhelming performance at WGI, Elliott is expected to be one of the top performers in next week's race at Bristol, where he has four top-10 finishes in the last five Cup events.
