Trea Turner Homers Twice, Plates Four Tuesday
7 months agoPhiladelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner continued to heat up at the plate in Tuesday's 9-4 win over the Rays. Turner went 3-for-5 with a single, a pair of two-run home runs, and a strikeout. The 31-year-old launched a third-inning Taj Bradley fastball into the left-field seats and hit an eighth-inning Edwin Uceta offering into nearly the same spot in the seats. Turner's second-half stats are down compared to his first-half, but he has picked things up in September, slashing .297/.366/.595 with three HR in 37 at-bats. A Turner hot streak hitting at the top of a surging Phillies lineup is exactly what fantasy managers need as the season finishes up.

Trea Turner Still Out With Back Spasms
23 hours agoPhiladelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner (back) is not in the team's lineup for their home-opening series against the Colorado Rockies. Turner has been limited to just one outing thus far while experiencing back spasms that have held him out for three straight contests. Fortunately, the 31-year-old was seen taking ground balls on Monday. He noted that he was feeling better and that he hoped to play again on Wednesday. Turner has no hits in his first four at-bats but has been a good bet for four-category production when he's healthy. Teammate Edmundo Sosa projects to continue filling in at shortstop while the veteran is sidelined.

Trea Turner Likely Out Until Wednesday
2 days agoPhiladelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner (back) is not expected to return to the starting lineup until Wednesday, according to manager Rob Thompson. Turner missed his second straight game on Sunday due to back spasms. The organization plans to rest him again on Monday before the team has an off day on Tuesday. That would give Turner four days of rest before likely getting back into the lineup on Wednesday. The expectation is that Edmundo Sosa will continue start at shortstop until Turner is back. Sosa could have some short term fantasy value, but might not be worth adding with Turner possibly returning on Wednesday.

Trea Turner, J.T. Realmuto Sitting On Sunday
2 days agoPhiladelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner (back) and catcher J.T. Realmuto (foot) are not in Sunday's lineup when the Phillies conclude a series with the Washington Nationals. Turner was scratched from Saturday's lineup due to back spasms, and Realmuto was removed from Saturday's game after fouling a ball off his foot. His X-rays came back negative, but the team will exercise caution with both of their key players. As a result, Edmundo Sosa will get the nod at shortstop for the second-straight day and bat sixth. Rafael Marchan will play behind the plate and bat ninth. Fantasy managers should monitor their status leading up to their next contest on Monday against the Colorado Rockies. Both Sosa and Marchan are worth a look as budget plays in DFS facing Washington southpaw Mitchell Parker.

Trea Turner Scratched On Saturday
3 days agoPhiladelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner (back) was scratched from Saturday's lineup due to back spasms. As a result, Edmundo Sosa will cover shortstop and bat ninth. Fantasy managers should continue to keep a close eye on his status leading up to their next contest on Sunday. If Turner were to miss an extended period, Sosa would likely see most of the starting opportunities. Last season, Turner posted a .295/.338/.469 slash line with 25 doubles and 21 long balls. He swiped 19 bags and showed a strong eye at the plate as he posted a strong 18.2 percent strikeout rate. Last summer, Sosa posted a .257/.313/.422 line with 12 doubles and seven round-trippers. He will face Washington right-hander Jake Irvin, who held a 4.41 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP last season.
