George Springer Heads To The Bench
3 months agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer and catcher Alejandro Kirk are both out of the starting lineup on Saturday against the Los Angeles Angels at Rogers Centre. Rookie Addison Barger, who had a walk-off home run on Friday night, is starting in right field and is hitting seventh, while Brian Serven is doing the catching and batting ninth against Angels right-hander Carson Fulmer. Springer could use the day off after going hitless in eight at-bats with two strikeouts in the last two contests against the Halos. He's also hitting just .171 (13-for-76) in 19 games in August, although he has contributed four home runs, a double, triple and 10 RBI. Barger, 24, does have two home runs this month, but he's mostly struggled in his first 123 MLB at-bats, going 22-for-123 (.179) with four home runs, 17 RBI and 11 runs scored for the Jays.
