Robby Snelling Heading To The Fish
4 months agoThe Miami Marlins acquired pitching prospect Robby Snelling from the San Diego Padres on Tuesday in the package that sent lefty closer Tanner Scott to the Friars. In addition to Snelling, the Marlins also landed pitcher Adam Mazur, infielder/outfielder Graham Pauley and second baseman Jay Beshears. Snelling, who was considered SD's No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is only 20 years old. The left-hander was already at Double-A but had struggled to the tune of a 6.01 ERA and 1.68 WHIP with 67 strikeouts and 33 walks in 73 1/3 innings in the Texas League over 16 starts. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound former 39th overall pick is going to need to show more consistency in the minors but has the stuff to reach the big leagues for the rebuilding Marlins as soon as next year. Snelling works mainly off a three-pitch combo of a fastball, curveball and changeup.
