Joe Ryan Records Fifth Victory
10 months agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Joe Ryan improved his record to 5-5 by defeating the Oakland Athletics on Thursday. Ryan tossed seven innings and allowed three hits, two runs, one walk and recorded five strikeouts. All of Ryan's runs came off a Tyler Soderstrom two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning. The right-hander has been putting together a strong season on the hill and remains a consistent option near the top of managers rotations. Ryan will carry a 3.24 ERA into his next start versus the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday. Managers shouldn't hesitate to start Ryan when it's his turn in the rotation.

Joe Ryan Having Normal Offseason Despite Shoulder Injury
2 months agoAccording to Matthew Leach of MLB.com, Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Joe Ryan (shoulder) has been having a typical offseason despite the shoulder injury that cut his 2024 season short. Ryan was placed on the injured list in early August with a Grade 2 right teres major strain. However, Leach reported that Ryan is having a "typical offseason" and throwing like he "normally would." This is an excellent sign for the 28-year-old as he should be a full-go during spring training. Ryan enjoyed a career season in 2024 as he posted a 3.60 ERA and a stellar 0.99 WHIP across 135 innings of work. He struck out 147 batters and showed elite command with a near-perfect 4.3% walk rate. He also generated an excellent 2.87 xERA, which suggests that he should be in store for some positive regression in 2025. Ryan carries solid upside in drafts this offseason as he should be poised to take another step forward this summer.

Joe Ryan Progressing Well
5 months agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Joe Ryan (shoulder) is progressing well, according to Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey. Falvey noted that the reports about the right-handed pitcher have been "nothing but positive." Ryan sustained a right teres-major strain in August and was unable to return to the mound before the end of the regular season. Before the injury, the 28-year-old posted a 3.60 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and a 23:147 BB:K in 135 frames of work. Ryan showcased stellar command with a near-perfect 4.3% walk rate. In addition, he was able to generate whiffs at an above-average 26.6% mark and strikeouts at a strong 27.3% rate. If Ryan makes a full recovery in time for spring training, fantasy managers should target him as a great option to boost your team's WHIP.

Joe Ryan To Miss Significant Time With Teres Major Strain
8 months agoMinnesota Twins right-hander Joe Ryan's (triceps) injury is worse than the team expected. Ryan is headed to the 15-day injured list and was diagnosed with a Grade 2 teres major strain that will take "weeks to months" to heal, according to manager Rocco Baldelli. The Twins didn't rule him out for the season just yet, but it's certainly more severe than initial indications. It's a major blow to a Twins team looking to get into the postseason. It's also a big blow for Ryan's fantasy managers, as there's a very good chance we won't see him pitch again in 2024. Minnesota will call up right-hander Louie Varland to start Game 2 of a doubleheader on Friday against the visiting division-rival Cleveland Guardians, and he could stick around in the rotation in Ryan's spot for the foreseeable future.

Joe Ryan Undergoing MRI Exam
8 months agoMinnesota Twins right-hander Joe Ryan (triceps) is undergoing an MRI exam on Thursday after being forced to leave his start early on Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs with right-triceps tightness after two innings of work. We should have word on the results sooner than later and whether Ryan will be forced to the 15-day injured list. The Twins were optimistic on Wednesday that the 28-year-old's injury wasn't a long-term one, but that doesn't mean they won't put him on the IL and have him rest up for at least two weeks. In four starts since the All-Star break in mid-July, Ryan is 1-3 after allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on 14 hits (three homers) while walking four and striking out 23 in 20 1/3 innings. With a 27.3% strikeout rate and career-low 4.3% walk rate, Ryan has been a fantasy asset in most leagues in 2024.
