Boston Red Sox backstop Connor Wong is not in Saturday's lineup after starting the previous two games. Reese McGuire will serve as the backstop for starting pitcher Cooper Criswell. Wong has had a great start to the young season with a .360/.385/.581 line with five long balls through 25 games. Wong should be expected to return behind the dish on Sunday. McGuire enters Saturday with a solid .270/.361/.381 line with three swiped bags and two home runs. McGuire will be batting in the seven-hole against Jake Irvin and could be a sneaky play in DFS, who enters Saturday's game with a 3.72 ERA and 1.19 WHIP.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

Boston Red Sox catcher Connor Wong (finger) took batting practice on Wednesday and caught a bullpen session. Manager Alex Cora said that Wong is fine with catching but needs to catch up hitting-wise. The 28-year-old backstop will likely go on a minor-league rehab assignment this weekend, which means he could be a candidate to come off the injured list and rejoin the BoSox's lineup at some point late next week. Wong is recovering from a fractured left pinkie finger in early April and will eventually return to being the club's primary catcher after his breakout season in 2024. In the meantime, Carlos Narvaez will be Boston's No. 1 backstop, with Blake Sabol backing him up. Wong had only played in nine games in 2025 before injuring his finger and had gone just 2-for-23 with a steal and seven strikeouts. Hopefully, he'll be more productive upon his return.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Boston Red Sox catcher Connor Wong (finger) caught a bullpen session on Tuesday. The 28-year-old caught a bullpen from Kutter Crawford (knee). Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic noted that Wong is expected to continue to catch bullpens as he slowly increases his workload. Wong has been on the injured list since suffering a fractured left pinky during the first week of April. Before the injury, the backstop held a .087/.192/.087 slash line with just two hits (all singles) across nine games. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progression as he could be cleared to progress to the next step if he does not face any setbacks. Fantasy managers in deeper formats should continue to stash Wong on their injured reserve, as he was a very effective backstop last season, as he held a .2890/.333/.425 line. He should be deployed as the top backstop in Boston once he is cleared to return and will carry low-end C1 value.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox catcher Connor Wong (finger) suffered a fractured left finger in Monday's series opener against the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park and will land on the 10-day injured list. Manager Alex Cora said the team hasn't decided on a corresponding move, but it will likely be Blake Sabol joining the big-league roster to serve as the backup at catcher behind Carlos Narvaez. Wong's catching hand was hit by a bat on catcher's interference, and he immediately had to be removed from the game in favor of Narvaez, who ended up going 0-for-4 in the 6-2 loss. There's no exact timetable for the 28-year-old's return, but Wong will most likely not be ready to go in 10 days. After a breakout season in 2024, Wong came into Monday's game hitting just .087 (2-for-23) with seven strikeouts in his first eight games of 2025.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Boston Red Sox catcher Connor Wong (hand) has been removed early during Monday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Wong was hit in the hand on a catcher's interference play during the first inning. He suffered a right hand contusion when George Springer hit him in the glove hand, which led to him being replaced. Carlos Narvaez took over behind the plate in the second inning as the Red Sox didn't want to take any risks. The expectation is that Wong will undergo further testing to determine the severity of the injury. For now, fantasy managers should consider Wong as day-to-day until there's another update.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller
