Spencer Arrighetti Coming Up To Make Big-League Debut
8 months agoThe Houston Astros are promoting top pitching prospect Spencer Arrighetti so that he can make his major-league debut and start against the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday, according to major-league sources. He will presumably take the rotation spot of lefty Framber Valdez (elbow), who went on the injured list on Tuesday with left-elbow inflammation. With Arrighetti's arrival, the Astros could push Hunter Brown and J.P. France back a day to give them extra rest. The 24-year-old Arrighetti last pitched at Triple-A Sugar Land on April 4, so he he'll be on full rest after posting a 2.16 ERA in his first two starts in the minors. He was named the organization's Minor-League Pitcher of the Year in 2023. Arrighetti mostly relies on a mid-90s fastball and low-80s sweeper. While he's the team's top pitching prospect, he may not stick in Houston's rotation for long once Justin Verlander (shoulder) makes his 2024 debut.
