Tommy Edman Resumes Baseball Activities
9 months agoSt. Louis Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said that center fielder Tommy Edman (wrist) resumed playing catch and hitting off a tee in camp on Tuesday. The next steps for Edman will be hitting with front toss and coach pitch, according to the skipper. Edman was recently shut down for a period after experiencing pain in his surgically repaired right wrist. "Days were (up and down) instead of (incremental progress). We could have continued on that path, but there's no reason to have two good days and one bad day. They studied it a little bit and felt it made more sense to have a pause and then go back at it," Marmol said. There's a chance Edman won't be ready by Opening Day on March 28. In that event, Dylan Carlson would open the year as St. Louis' center fielder. Edman provides a modest power/speed profile, but his stock is dropping due to his injury, and he's best viewed as a No. 4 fantasy outfielder.
