Eduardo Rodriguez May Not Pitch Again This Year
1 year agoDetroit Tigers left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) left his start on Monday against the Los Angeles Dodgers early with a left-scapular spasm. He will be further evaluated on Tuesday, but with less than two weeks left in the season, Rodriguez might not have enough time to return. Before leaving in the fourth inning, E-Rod had allowed five earned runs on five hits (two home runs) while walking one and striking out one in three innings. The rough outing raised the 30-year-old southpaw's ERA to 3.57 on the season. The Venezuelan has had a strong season overall, though, going 11-9 with a 1.17 WHIP and 133 strikeouts in 138 2/3 innings pitched over 24 starts for the Tigers. He has a clause in his contract that allows him to opt out of his current deal after the World Series and forgo the final four years of the six-year deal he signed after 2021.
