Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Sees Benefits From World Cup Participation
1 year agoOklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander believes the FIBA World Cup tournament helped him to prepare for the new NBA season. "I think this whole tournament will help me be ready for the next season," Gilgeous-Alexander told George Efkarpides of EuroHoops after helping Canada win its first-ever medal at the tournament. "I'll be in shape, I've played basketball, so it won't be as much of an adjustment next season." Toronto's Dennis Schroder won the tournament MVP award after helping Germany to win gold, but Gilgeous-Alexander also showed great form and was a good candidate for the award after averaging 24.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 6.4 assists. He had a huge campaign last season in the NBA, and the pressure will be on Gilgeous-Alexander to keep up the performance levels or even improve. It looks like he has gained a nice amount of momentum from the World Cup.
