New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso (neck) was removed from Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Angels after being hit by a pitch. Benches cleared after Alonso was hit near the back of his neck with a José Soriano curveball. The 28-year-old was removed from the game and replaced by Danny Mendick. He went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts before exiting. The severity of Alonso's injury is unknown at this time, and he is considered day-to-day. The Mets slugger is hitting .220 with 39 home runs, 95 RBI, 73 runs, and four stolen bases over 121 games in 2023. His next chance to return to the lineup will be Sunday's series finale against the Angels.
