Jacoby Brissett To Start Season As Backup
1 year agoThe Washington Commanders on Friday officially named quarterback Sam Howell as their starter under center heading into the 2023 regular season, meaning veteran Jacoby Brissett will open the year as the backup. Howell and Brissett had been in a competition for the job since organized team activities in the spring, but the foregone conclusion was always that Howell would win the job to open the year. The 30-year-old Brissett did a commendable job running the Cleveland Browns' offense last year before Deshaun Watson returned from his suspension, and he has 48 career starts in the NFL. If Howell struggles early in the year, don't be surprised if the Commanders turn to Brissett, who would then be on the radar as a low-end QB2 in superflex leagues.
