1 year agoDetroit Tigers shortstop Javier Baez (knee) is leaving the team to head to Puerto Rico for his grandfather's funeral. Baez will be placed on the bereavement list, and the Tigers will announce a corresponding move on Sunday. The 30-year-old was scratched from Saturday's game against the Red Sox with a sore knee. Baez is slashing .221/.262/.320 with seven home runs, 50 RBI, 50 runs, and 10 stolen bases over 443 plate appearances in 2023. Zach McKinstry will handle shortstop duties while Baez is away, but it's unclear who will join the big-league roster in Sunday's corresponding move.--Brad Camara - RotoBaller
