Anthony Volpe Getting A Rest Day
1 year agoNew York Yankees rookie shortstop Anthony Volpe is taking a day off on Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will instead start at shortstop and bat eighth in the order against White Sox right-hander Mike Clevinger. It's a regular day of rest for Volpe, who could really use the rest. The 22-year-old has hit .192 (14-for-73) with one home run, three doubles, eight RBI, 20 strikeouts, four stolen bases and seven runs scored in 23 games (22 starts) since the All-Star break. He's been the team's starting shortstop all year in his first big-league season, and while he has produced 14 home runs and 20 stolen bases, he's also batting a weak .211 (80-for-379) with a .288 on-base percentage.
