Shohei Ohtani Wants To Win
1 year agoLos Angeles Angels two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani will become a free agent after the 2023 season, and he said on Monday that his desire to play on a winning club "gets stronger" with each passing year. If the season ended now, the Angels would miss the playoffs for the ninth straight year, including all six seasons since they signed Ohtani from Japan. The 29-year-old is expected to command a record contract if and when he hits the open market. The Angels could also decide to trade the 2021 American League MVP before the Aug. 1 deadline. Ohtani is doing things never seen before in the sport and currently leads the majors in home runs (32), triples (six) and slugging percentage (.663) while also hitting a career-high .302. As a pitcher, he has a 3.32 ERA and is averaging 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings.
