Sean Casey To Serve As Yankees' New Hitting Coach
1 year agoFormer Cincinnati Reds first baseman Sean Casey will be the New York Yankees' next hitting coach, according to sources. It's expected that Casey will fill the role for the rest of the season so he can better decide if it's a position that he would like to remain in moving forward. The 49-year-old has been working as an analyst for MLB Network and has no previous experience as an MLB hitting coach. The Yankees fired hitting coach Dillon Lawson after their loss to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. The team's .231 batting average ranks 28th among 30 MLB teams, and they are hitting an MLB-worst .218 in 31 games since Aaron Judge tore a ligament in his right big toe on June 3. The firing of Lawson was New York's first in-season coaching change since 1995.
