Gregg Popovich Signs New Five-Year Deal With Spurs
1 year agoSan Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich signed a five-year deal to remain with the team. The new contract will pay him more than $80 million, higher than the six-year, $78.5 million agreement Monty Williams inked with Detroit. The 74-year-old is the winningest coach in NBA history, holding a career record of 1,366-761 while guiding the Spurs to five titles under his watch. Considering he's also the team's president of basketball operations, he'll remain involved in some capacity, even if he stops coaching in the next five years. But Popovich's involvement certainly means good things for San Antonio's young, up-and-coming roster, which includes 2023 No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama, Jeremy Sochan, Keldon Johnson, and Devin Vassell.
