Rays Plan To Start Shane McClanahan On Friday
1 year agoTampa Bay Rays left-hander Shane McClanahan (back) left his 16th start of the year last Thursday early against the Kansas City Royals due to tightness in his back. He had experienced stiffness in the area leading up to his last start, but it subsided in time for him to take the mound. But it returned on Thursday and limited his extension and diminished the velocity on his fastball and changeup. McClanahan played catch on Saturday and threw a short bullpen on Sunday. With the off day on Monday, the Rays will give him some extra time off and plan to start him on Friday in the series opener against the Seattle Mariners on the road. "Totally precautionary for us," manager Kevin Cash said. "He was pretty adamant that he felt great and was ready to go, but just felt like with the workload to date and where he's at, it's not the worst thing in the world."
