Russell Wilson's Efficiency Could Go Up
1 year agoThe Athletic's Nick Kosmider writes that it's clear Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson will more frequently be granted opportunities to spray the ball around the field and give his receivers room to run in new head coach Sean Payton's offense. From 2017-21, the Saints teams coached by Payton were collectively sixth in the league in yards after the catch per reception. Wilson sharply hit throws over the middle during offseason practices open to the media, and it's clear the offense has a chance to provide more open windows for Wilson that can turn into big plays without him having to force the ball down field. In 2022, his 80 attempts of 20-plus yards down field were the second-most of his career, but his efficiency on those throws was his second-lowest. With Payton in town, Wilson should be much more efficient in his second year in Denver.
