Xander Bogaerts Expected To Avoid Injured List
2 years agoSan Diego Padres manager Bob Melvin said shortstop Xander Bogaerts (wrist) is expected to avoid the injured list despite dealing with recurring wrist soreness recently. "I don't think it's significant enough to where it needs to be an injured-list stint," Melvin said. Bogaerts didn't play on Saturday against the New York Yankees, but he returned on Sunday to go 0-for-4 with two strikeouts and is back in the cleanup spot on Tuesday for the start of a series against the Miami Marlins and right-hander Sandy Alcantara. It's not a get-right matchup for Bogaerts, and his wrist injury has to be at least part of the reason for his poor month of May. In 23 games this month, he's gone just 16-for-87 (.184) with a homer, six RBI and 24 strikeouts in 98 plate appearances.
