Yankees Officially Release Aaron Hicks
2 years agoThe New York Yankees officially released outfielder Aaron Hicks on Friday to make room for rookie right-hander Randy Vasquez, who will make his major-league debut on Friday in a start against the San Diego Padres. Hicks was designated for assignment last weekend and went unclaimed on waivers. The Yankees will now pay the majority of the remaining $27.6 million that remains on the 33-year-old's contract. Hicks has done very little offensively since hitting a career-high 27 home runs back in 2018 for the Yankees, and he's dealt with various injuries on top of the poor performances in recent seasons. In 28 games before he was cut this year, he hit just .188 (13-for-69) with two doubles, a homer, five RBI and 20 strikeouts. Hicks will most likely latch on with another team, but he's probably a long shot to return any fantasy value the rest of this year.
