Jimmy Garoppolo 2023 NFL Player Outlook: Familiar Face In A New Place
Out with the old and in with the new, or it could be the reverse since Jimmy Garoppolo is replacing the younger Derek Carr as the Las Vegas Raiders' starting quarterback. Despite having yet to fully recover from offseason foot surgery, the 31-year-old signed a three-year, $67.5 million contract with the Raiders, while Carr signed a four-year deal with the Saints after the team released him this offseason. Either way, we are going from one game-managing QB to another. It's impossible to know what the health of Garoppolo will be, however, it's logical to think the Raiders wouldn't have signed him if they didn't believe he would be healthy for Week One. If he is available for the start of the season, he will have Davante Adams who made it clear Aaron Rodgers didn't make him the best receiver in the league. As a result, Garoppolo could take advantage of his talent and an array of weapons, including last year's rushing leader Josh Jacobs, Hunter Renfrow, and promising rookie tight end Michael Mayer. He will reunite with Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels. Garoppolo served as Tom Brady's backup from 2014-17 when McDaniels was the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots. It's tough to predict what reuniting with McDaniels will mean for his fantasy value, but the veteran is familiar with the Raiders' offense. However, the player known as Jimmy G should find a way to be a rock-solid option in Two-QB and Superflex formats.
