Manny Machado Absent Again On Wednesday
2 years agoSan Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado (hand) is out of the club's starting lineup for the second straight day Wednesday against the visiting Kansas City Royals. After getting hit on the hand by a pitch on Monday, Machado is now being held out of the starting lineup for the second straight contest on Wednesday. The 30-year-old heated up at the plate in late April into early May, but Machado has just one hit across his last six games and 23 trips to the plate. The veteran is hitting just .231 with five homers, two stolen bases, and a .654 OPS across 40 games on the season. He also ranks in the bottom half of the league in key Statcast metrics such as hard-hit rate, average exit velocity, and barrel rate to this point in the season.
