Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer has been scratched from Monday's starting lineup with what the team is calling a viral illness. Cavan Biggio will man right field in his absence while Whit Merrifield takes over at second base. It's a tough loss for the Blue Jays as they kick off a four-game set against their AL East rival Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. It's been a slow start for the veteran as Springer is hitting just .225 with three homers, five steals, and a .598 OPS across 28 games. His bat has been 30% below league average, per his 70 wRC+, while he has just four extra-base knocks on the campaign. His absence shouldn't be long while it's unclear if he will be available off the bench for Monday's contest.--Brenton Kemp
