Brandon Staley Wants Austin Ekeler To Remain A Charger
2 years agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler has been vocal this offseason about his contract situation. Although the team reportedly permitted the Pro Bowler to seek a trade, head coach Brandon Staley provided an update. "We've been in full communication with his team," commented Staley while speaking to NFL Network's Steve Wyche on Sunday. "We want him to be a Charger." Of course, Staley's comment about retaining Ekeler is a no-brainer, considering the 27-year-old totaled 1,637 rushing and receiving yards while combining for 18 touchdowns during the 2022-23 campaign. He's entering the final year of his contract and is due to make $6.25 million. But Ekeler has also openly expressed his desire to remain in Los Angeles, so the ball now appears to be in the office's hands.
