Denny Hamlin finished 1.74 seconds behind William Byron in qualifying on Saturday. That means he will begin the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix from the 21st position. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver did have the eighth quickest time in a five lap average though. Hamlin was leading after Stage 2 last year when the Toyota spun and lost speed. He ended up 18th. This year, the driver just did not seem to have it on the lap he needed most. Hamlin's best finish at COTA was 14th in the first race. Hamlin and even Martin Truex Jr. seem to be more focused on building up speed but their cars may not be fast enough.--Chris Wassel - RotoBaller
