Gabriel Moreno Doesn't Think Injury Is Serious
2 years agoArizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (hand) was removed from the team's Cactus League game on Saturday after being hit by a pitch on the left hand/wrist. He said the pitch caught him across his knuckles and doesn't think it's too serious. Moreno isn't scheduled to undergo X-rays for now, but he might get checked out on Sunday if it swells up overnight. It looks like the 23-year-old backstop has avoided a serious injury, but we'll have to keep an eye on him in the coming days. Arizona acquired Moreno from the Blue Jays in the offseason, and he'll have a legitimate shot at earning everyday playing time in the desert in 2023 in his first year with the team. He hit an impressive .319 with a homer and seven RBI in his first 25 big-league games last year and could provide a high average and 15-20 homers from the catching position.
