Ross Chastain's Hopes For A Top-Five Finish Evaporate
2 years agoRoss Chastain started sixth at Phoenix Raceway in the United Rentals 500 race and ran there for the majority of the race. With the dominance of Kyle Larson and William Byron and the late surge by Kevin Harvick, a win may not have been in the cards for Chastain, but a top-five finish was within reach. That is until the white flag dropped as NASCAR's fourth race of the Cup Series went into overtime. A familiar foe in Denny Hamlin was next to Chastain as the two of them were fighting for a top-five finish. They slammed into each other and into the outside wall on turns three and four. The Hamlin-Chastain feud continued and cost them both a good finish after a good day, as Chastain ultimately finished 24th on a day that should have produced better results for the No. 1 Trackhouse Racing car.
