Anthony Volpe Continues To Swing Hot Bat This Spring
2 years agoYankees shortstop prospect Anthony Volpe went 1-for-2 with a run and pair of walks in a start on Monday. Volpe drew the start with fellow shortstop prospect Oswald Peraza (foot) sidelined with a minor foot injury. Volpe, 21, is the teams top prospect and has been off to a hot start this spring with a .353 batting average to go along with five runs, one home run, one RBI and three stolen bases over 17 at-bats. The young shortstop has developed physically since being draft in the first-round out of high school and has shown strong exit velocities and power to all fields. Volpe has opened the eyes of manager Aaron Boone and he has mentioned recently that Volpe could have a chance at breaking camp with the team. Although those words are encouraging, it is more likely that Volpe will open the season in Triple-A with Oswald Peraza already on the 40-man roster and shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa still in the mix. Regardless, Volpe has made real strides so far this spring and could make his big-league debut in 2023. Volpe's highest value is in dynasty leagues, but he when called up, he will make for an exciting addition in redraft leagues. He is a name to keep a close eye on this spring.
