Robbie Ray Starting Cactus League Opener
2 years agoSeattle Mariners left-hander Robbie Ray will start the team's Cactus League opener this Friday against the San Diego Padres. In his first year in Seattle after winning the American League Cy Young with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2021, Ray went 12-12 with a 3.71 ERA (4.16 FIP), 1.19 WHIP and 27.4 percent strikeout rate in 189 innings over 32 starts for Seattle. He definitely wasn't as effective as he was the previous year, and he'll probably be most remembered for surrendering a game-winning homer to Yordan Alvarez in relief in the postseason against the eventual World Series champion Houston Astros in the Division Series. The 31-year-old southpaw has displayed that he can limit his walks, making him a solid mid-rotation piece for the improved Mariners.
