Amed Rosario 2023 MLB Player Outlook: Predictability Lowering Overall Value
2 years agoWhile it seems like Cleveland Guardians shortstop Amed Rosario has been around forever, the truth is he is entering his age-27 and thus the prime production seasons of his MLB career. That said, he's been a predictable bat through the first six seasons of his big-league tenure. Rosario has been a solid combination of power and speed, racking up 54 home runs and 81 steals in 697 career appearances. His on-base ability is hampered by a minuscule 4.5% walk rate that ranks 301st of the 315 qualified hitters over the last five seasons. While the former Met owns an impressive .302 batting average, .815 OPS, and 123 wRC+ in his career against lefties, he slips to a .264 BA, .675 OPS, and 84 wRC+ off righties. As an everyday player, Rosario's inability to produce against right-handed pitching caps his ceiling. To little surprise, Steamer projects 13 HR and 15 SB for Rosario in 2023, albeit with a solid 78 runs and 69 RBI. He's RotoBaller's 20th-ranked shortstop with a 123 ADP. Given his age, he continues to sport upside, but he will need to add more walks and production versus righties to his mix to reward fantasy owners betting on a deviation from the path in 2023.
